Passionate about being an Entrepreneur since he was young, Dinesh believes that passion is what made him an expert at what he does, network with the right people with similar perspectives, and set him apart from his competitors. “Passion gives an entrepreneur the inspiration and confidence to fulfill his mission. The important thing to remember about passion is that it needs to be created and developed. No one is born with passion, or so I believe. If we are passionate towards our goals, life becomes easier.”
A hugely successful business owner, Dinesh tells us that there are 3 things one must know before starting your own business. And those are – Your work is going to fill a large part of your life; thus the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work; and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.
Detailing his business strategy, he says successful businesses require more than just great products/services. They also require people to fill various roles, including:
“It’s important to review your weaknesses in these areas before you start your business, and find ways to overcome them. You could have the best product or service in the world, but without marketing them to people who’d be interested in them, the business will flop. If you’re not disciplined with invoicing, you won’t get paid. And if you miss a tax deadline, you can count on being penalized for it.
You could outsource or hire people for all these roles, but when you’re just starting out, you may not have the funds to do that. So prepare to wear many hats, spending time doing things that might not be core to what you’re producing but are still essential for your company. For once you do hire others, you’ll need management skills to bring out the best in your team.”
Dinesh’s superior strategy has helped him reach many milestones. Besides receiving awards and compliments from seniors and co-workers, he has received numerous opportunities to work on special projects; re-organised processes to make them better; identified tricky problems and solved them; came up with innovative ideas to improve products; and developed or implemented many new systems.
People who know Dinesh say he is bold, confident, determined, disciplined, humble, creative, and idealistic. But he is quick to share his weaknesses and add, “Multitasking too much, overthinking, easily overwhelmed, sensitive, and introverted.”
Speaking about the importance of work-life balance, he says one of the most crucial means of finding a balance is to keep the two as separate as possible. Unreasonable demands, such as weekend meetings and technology overload, can add pressure. When juggling between work and personal life, less attention is given to health and nutrition. But physical and mental health are equally important and if health is compromised, it can affect your work and life.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective. We get a finite period of time on this planet to have professional success (making an impact, creating value) and personal success (happiness, fun moments with family, shared experiences). These two must be in balance, and one should never dominate the other.”
A veteran leader, we ask Dinesh to share his mantra of success for the younger generations, and he lists his 3 ‘mantras’:
